The Ban Bullying at Work campaign is spearheaded by The Andrea Adams Trust - the first charity in the UK dedicated to preventing workplace bullying.
This years Ban Bullying Day on the 7th November and was a huge success!
Over 300 organisations were involved in the UK and we estimate that 3,000,000 of the UK’s workforce took part in the day in some form. This website was accessed internationally by people from around 2300 companies during the week that included November 7th. All our promotional items were completely sold out and several thousand co-branded posters were sold across Europe.
A very successful PR campaign saw us on BBC News, GMTV, Sky News, the Today programme, 23 regional BBC radio shows and a huge range of magazines and newspapers that helped get the issue of bullying at work the attention it deserves.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our key supporters and every single organisation and individual who was actively involved in Ban Bullying at Work Day 2007.
As the UK’s leading authority on workplace bullying, the Andrea Adams Trust is committed not just to helping individuals and organisations deal with the problem, but to extending our understanding of the nature and scale of workplace bullying through extensive partnership working. In 2006, we focused on self-reflection, asking the question ‘Have you Crossed the Line?’ We inspired people all across the UK to think about their own behaviour, and to understand the impact it could have on others.
This year the campaign has evolved, and is asking the UK to have the courage to Speak Out.
Statistics show that 1 in 4 people have been bullied at some point in their working lives, and new research indicates this figure may be as high as 1 in 2. So, chances are that even if you have been lucky enough to escape persecution yourself, someone very close to you may have their lives blighted by it at some point.
And if they do, one issue they may have to deal with is bystander apathy. With colleagues and friends often keeping their heads down to save themselves, targets of bullying become isolated very quickly.
That’s why we are encouraging both individuals and organisations to have the strength to stand up and Speak Out. We want people to be aware of the complex issues that surround bullying, and to understand how they may be resolved; if not for themselves, then for the sake of others close to them.
Some of the UK’s biggest companies are already involved in this year’s campaign, and we hope to make a major impact on the countries’ workplaces.
"Workplace bullying is a serious business issue and we welcome the opportunity to support everything that the Andrea Adams Trust and Ban Bullying at Work Day represents. This national day allows us to demonstrate our commitment to addressing this problem and gives our people the chance to express their support"
David Vaughn, Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Royal Mail Letters
"We are delighted to support the Andrea Adams Trust and National Ban Bullying at Work Day on 7 November. It is a great concern that bullying still exists in UK organisations with research by the Institute revealing 39 per cent of employees have been bullied in the last three years. The commitment to ridding workplace bullying through formal bullying policies is a reflection of best practice management and should be a matter of priority for UK plc."
Jo Causon, Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs for the Chartered Management Institute
